Uncharted Waters: The Fall of the Irish “Green” Party with Saoirse McHugh

Uncharted Waters is a series of interviews and discussions with leading scientists, intellectuals, activists and public figures on the defining issues of our time.

It is hosted by me, Theo Cullen-Mouze, and I’m an 18 year old climate activist and writer from a small offshore island on Ireland’s West coast.

In this episode, I’m joined by Saoirse McHugh, an activist from Achill Island and Green Party candidate in the European and General Elections. We discuss the failures of the Green Party in government, Minister Eamon Ryan and Saoirse’s views as on everything from sustainable agriculture and transport to how climate action can be achieved.

The full interview has been split into two episodes. In this first of two parts, Saoirse goes in depth into her rationale for both joining, and later leaving the Green Party, as well as how they’re currently doing in government.
